In a heartfelt post on his personal social media account, Macaulay Culkin (43 years old) revealed that becoming a father has changed his perspective on Father's Day.

Having grown up with an abusive father, Macaulay has had complex feelings about Father's Day in the past. However, after becoming a father to two sons - Dakota (3 years old) and Carson (1 year old), Macaulay decided to change his outlook on this day.

Previously, Macaulay felt conflicted watching everyone celebrating Father's Day with joy.

As a father himself, Macaulay decided to focus on activities with his children to make the day a happy one for them.

"I decided to think differently, feel differently. Father's Day will no longer revolve around my conflicted feelings, but around those who helped me understand what being a father is," shared Macaulay.

In a 2018 interview, Macaulay revealed that his relationship with his biological father - actor Kit Culkin (79 years old) - had many issues even before he became a child star.

According to Macaulay, Kit Culkin had a tendency to be abusive, often resorting to violence and physical punishment whenever his children went against him.

"My father was abusive both physically and emotionally towards his family. There are scars that never fade. My father was also a very jealous person. The things he strived for his whole life, I achieved before I was 10 years old. This made the relationship between my father and me very difficult and sad," shared Macaulay.

The actor has not been in contact with his father for over 25 years. He has built his concept of being a good father through movies.

"My father always made the family crumble. There are things that cannot be fully explained, you have to be in that situation to truly understand," Macaulay bitterly shared.

Actor Macaulay Culkin and his six siblings grew up in poverty. The large family lived in a small, cramped apartment with only one bedroom in Manhattan, New York, USA. In his career, Kit Culkin pursued acting on stage.

But the Culkin family's life changed when Macaulay became famous as a child actor. Macaulay earning a lot of money to support the family only made the relationship between him and his father even sadder.

Eventually, Macaulay filed a lawsuit to completely break free from the interference and control of his parents over his work, life, and finances since he was 16 years old.

At a young age, Macaulay appeared in films like Rocket Gibraltar (1988), See You in the Morning (1989), Uncle Buck (1989), Home Alone (1990), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)...

At the age of 14, Macaulay paused his acting career due to personal turmoil. Macaulay's acting career can be summarized as a "moment of glory then quickly extinguished". His later years as an adult were filled with turmoil.

He has had legal troubles for possession of illegal substances. At times, Macaulay was reckless and self-destructive to a worrying extent. This led to rumors that Macaulay was severely ill and about to... pass away.

The story of Macaulay Culkin is a typical example of the tragic "early fame, rapid decline" that happens to child stars in Hollywood.

Not having a normal childhood, feeling exploited by his parents for money, having to find ways to mature on his own, and ultimately, in wealth and loneliness, Macaulay fell early and seemed unable to rise again.

Only when entering a relationship with actress Brenda Song did Macaulay start to feel more at ease. Currently, Macaulay appears in good health. He has returned to acting in some supporting roles in television and film.

Macaulay has been with Brenda Song since 2017, and they lead a relatively private life. They both strive to give their two young children the most normal childhood possible.
