In 1972, Trung Đức joined the army and became a truck driver in the 559 Trường Sơn Battalion. Later, he studied at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now the National Academy of Music of Vietnam). After graduating, he worked at the Thăng Long Music and Dance Theater, then moved to the Vietnam Music and Dance Theater until his retirement.
Speaking to Dân trí reporter, NSND Trung Đức shared that he was lucky to marry a beautiful and skillful wife. He and his wife have 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter. His wife, Phạm Phương, is the younger sister of a friend, living in Mã Mây street (Hanoi). They initially met as friends, then developed affection and love for each other. His wife is very capable, taking care of the family and managing internal and external affairs.
He said, "My wife is very beautiful and cooks delicious food. Even though I have a husband who is an artist and often travels far away for work, she is not jealous. We understood each other from a young age, so we are peacefully together in old age."
NSND Trung Đức shared that when he first met his wife, his in-laws were hesitant because he was an artist, but his sincerity softened his wife and family. Both families organized the wedding after 5 years of dating.
The male artist disclosed that even after 35 years, he still has the habit of returning home, taking off his shoes, and calling out: "Wife, here's the money!". He jokingly revealed that he doesn't have a "black fund" because he gives all his earnings to his wife and buys things she likes.
Throughout the years living together, his wife has helped NSND Trung Đức survive many life challenges, including two severe illnesses. His wife and daughter took turns caring for him when he fell from bed to the floor while sleeping, leaving lasting effects till now.
Currently, he and his wife live with their daughter and grandchildren on Nguyễn Chí Thanh street (Hanoi). When not performing in other provinces, he stays at home playing with his grandchildren, chatting with his wife, and reading books.

The 72-year-old artist mentioned that he still wakes up at 4 am every day, goes out for breakfast and coffee with friends from 6 am.
"I still do sports daily. Each session lasts over an hour, it might be exercise or martial arts. I still practice singing regularly, over 30 minutes every day without getting tired.
My voice is good at the moment, hitting high notes still works well, surprising friends who hear me sing. I feel that I sing better now than when I was young..." NSND Trung Đức said.
