At a recent event, Tu Thieu Hoa dressed up as the character Tang Monk from Journey to the West and performed with a girl in a way that was considered inappropriate.

The female character in the song portrayed the image of the queen of Nu Ni Quoc. Meanwhile, Tu Thieu Hoa wore a cassock, but his actions were not suitable for this girl.

Other people present at the event applauded the performance. However, when these images were shared on the internet, most of the comments criticized Tu Thieu Hoa for deliberately tarnishing the image of Tang Monk.

For many years, Tu Thieu Hoa has often dressed up as Tang Monk to perform at company openings, wedding celebrations, longevity celebrations, etc. He is one of the three actors who portrayed Tang Monk in the TV series Journey to the West (1986). Thanks to this role, he has made a living throughout his life.

Compared to the other Tang Monks, Trong Trong Thuy has become a billionaire, Uong Viet has become an associate professor at the Directing Department of the Chinese Theatre Academy, and Tu Thieu Hoa is seen as the most unstable in terms of career.

Tu Thieu Hoa stated that he has been actively participating in social welfare activities for many years to convey the values of honesty, kindness, and beauty to society. Among the three actors who played Tang Monk in Journey to the West (1986), Tu Thieu Hoa is the only one still active in the arts.

The main job of the 65-year-old actor is to travel around provinces. Thanks to the popularity of Journey to the West, he is still invited to perform at small events. He often dresses up as Tang Monk, recreating the famous image from the past.

Among the three actors who played Tang Monk, Tu Thieu Hoa is considered the most scholarly and handsome in the movie.

When he joined Journey to the West, Tu Thieu Hoa was still a newcomer. He gained fame after the movie "Tinh bien" and was praised as one of the most handsome, talented, and promising actors in Chinese cinema. He took on the role of Tang Monk after actor Uong Viet declined the role.

While filming the movie, Tu Thieu Hoa suddenly announced that he would stop acting to focus on studying at university. The actor was one of the few artists in the Journey to the West crew with a high education background, holding two university degrees.

However, according to Chinese media, the main reason Tu Thieu Hoa left the role was because he did not accept the salary that director Duong Kiet offered him, compared to the other two main actors in the film. When Tu Thieu Hoa withdrew from the film, the role of Tang Monk was given to Trong Trong Thuy.

For many years, the Chinese media has often discussed the conflicts between Tu Thieu Hoa and the Journey to the West crew. He did not keep in touch with the crew and was absent from most of the cast's meetings.

Even at the funeral of "Assistant Pig" Dien Hoai Le in 2009, Tu Thieu Hoa did not attend or share any words on his personal page. This caused him to be criticized for lack of loyalty.

It was not until 2018 that Tu Thieu Hoa reunited with the Journey to the West cast on the first anniversary of director Duong Kiet's death. He actively talked to his colleagues, resolving past conflicts.

Among the three actors who played Tang Monk, Tu Thieu Hoa has the most difficult life. In recent years, as his family's economy has declined, he has returned to acting. The veteran star is also mocked for reprising the image of Tang Monk on TV shows or small events.

Facing public pressure, the 65-year-old artist confided: "Life is full of illusions. Winning is fun, losing also wants to be happy. If one's whole life only encounters success without failure, it is regrettable, and failing without seeing success is also painful. The joy in life is to overcome all challenges with effort."

At 70, Tu Thieu Hoa is still working diligently, performing at small events to support his livelihood (Photo: Sina).

His last work was "Immersion into Youth 2021" with the participation of old colleagues such as Ma Duc Hoa, Luu Dai Cuong, Vuong Ba Chieu but received the lowest box office revenue in 20 years.

Many people believe that the movie borrowed the popularity of the original Journey to the West (1986) and brought together many old actors to attract the audience. Most opinions say that Journey to the West has been exploited too much and has become boring. The movies "based on" Journey to the West are all considered inferior to the original.
