On the evening of April 27, the television program "Echoes of the Anthem" organized by Vietnam Television (VTV) and broadcast live on VTV1 portrayed the glorious milestones of the nation over the past half century.
One of the most notable moments was the mashup performance of "A Circle of Vietnam" - "Linking Big Arms", closing the program with AI recreating images of the late musician Trinh Cong Son playing the guitar and singing, against a backdrop of dazzling fireworks.
Immediately after it aired, this performance sparked a debate on social media. Along with supportive opinions, viewing this as a creative way to pay tribute to the late composer, many expressed dissatisfaction, believing that recreating the image of the deceased using AI was not appropriate.
In an interview with Dan Tri reporter, singer Trinh Vinh Trinh - the younger sister of the late musician and the family representative - confirmed that VTV had contacted and obtained permission from the family before using the AI-generated images.
"VTV was very thoughtful. Before the program began, they sent a letter to the family requesting permission to use the song and images created by AI.
The family agreed and supported, seeing this as artistic creativity. We respect VTV's idea and are very proud and honored that images of my brother along with the song 'Linking Big Arms' were chosen for this meaningful television program," Ms. Trinh Vinh Trinh expressed.
Regarding the mixed reactions that arose after the program, Ms. Trinh said the family completely understood: "Whether it is agreement, surprise, or even opposition, all stems from the deep love and respect that the public has for Son."
According to her, fans wish to preserve the original images of Trinh Cong Son in their hearts. Therefore, the family not only respects but also appreciates these sentiments.
"All reactions stem from the love for Trinh Cong Son. The family understands and appreciates all opinions, as they all aim to preserve the values and beautiful memories of him," Ms. Trinh Vinh Trinh emphasized.
The family also shared that over the years, when performing Trinh's music, young singers have always been reminded to be extremely careful, as Trinh's fans cherish every note, every comma in the lyrics.
For the family, every acceptance or debate is evidence of the enduring love that audiences have for Trinh Cong Son and the values he left behind.
Regarding VTV, the broadcaster stated that the team had carefully discussed the use of AI-generated images and only proceeded after obtaining the consent of Trinh Cong Son's family.
"The image of musician Trinh Cong Son was recreated on the stage of 'Echoes of the Anthem,' performing the song 'Linking Big Arms' under the fireworks of peace.
The use of images and singing in this performance was thoroughly prepared and received the consent of Trinh Cong Son's family," the VTV3 fanpage (with a green checkmark) posted the introduction of this performance on the evening of April 27.
