Actor Tan Hoang (born in 1948) was a familiar face on the Hong Kong screen. He appeared in many works by writer Kim Dung such as "The Brave Archer" (in 1976 and 1983) and "The Return of the Condor Heroes" (in 1976 and 1983).

Among these, the role of Zhu Bajie in "The Return of the Condor Heroes" is considered the most prominent in Tan Hoang's acting career.

In recent years, he has continued his artistic activities, portraying supporting roles in TVB dramas. However, since 2019, his health has declined, leading Tan Hoang to stop acting.

The life of the actor born in 1948 took a completely different turn when he decided to leave his wife and children to pursue a romance with a woman 20 years his junior.

In 2023, the actor decided to share the tragedy of his life with the media. He recounted that at the age of 50, he met Mary, a woman 20 years younger in mainland China.

Tan Hoang initially rejected Mary's affection, but she persisted in pursuing him, willingly taking care of him. He praised Mary as a diligent, sincere woman who was not materialistic.

Gradually, Tan Hoang was touched by the woman's affection and bought a house for the young lover to live in mainland China. However, the actor did not divorce his wife. He explained that due to work, he and his wife often had to live apart, affecting their relationship.

After the actor's wife discovered his extramarital relationship, she filed for divorce but Tan Hoang did not accept it for fear of the impact on their children. A few years after the shock of her husband's affair, Tan Hoang's wife passed away.

According to a close source, during the time living with Tan Hoang, Mary often hinted at getting married but the actor did not agree. Finally, Mary left the house.

Only 3 months later, she returned after discovering she was pregnant. Mary gave birth to a girl and continued to live with Tan Hoang despite not having an official status.

The actor financially supported and assisted Mary's daughter until she finished university. Many friends expressed disappointment that Tan Hoang took care of Mary's daughter but abandoned his 4 biological children in Hong Kong.

In his old age, Tan Hoang began to have health problems. He could not walk and had to use a wheelchair, weighing over 100kg. A few years ago, he fell and had to be hospitalized. However, Mary was not there to take care of him. His biological children also refused to visit him.

A friend in the entertainment industry had to take him to the hospital. As medical decisions required the signature of a family member, the hospital contacted Tan Hoang's relatives but received no response.

Some sources say that Tan Hoang's 4 children do not want to contact him because they are angry that he abandoned his ex-wife and children to pursue a new love. In his final years, the actor wanted to reconcile with his children but they did not accept him.

In 2023, one of Tan Hoang's 4 children visited him at the hospital. Meeting his daughter again, the actor was very happy and emotional. According to his friends, in his old age, Tan Hoang began to feel regret for his mistakes.

He admitted that when he was healthy, he always thought that as long as he provided for his children, he fulfilled his duties as a father. However, the distance made his children drift further away. In recent years, he wanted to mend relationships but his 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy, all remained aloof.

Last May, the actor fell again and had to be hospitalized for treatment. He was then transferred to a nursing home. The veteran TVB actor admitted that he was facing financial difficulties, relying on social assistance and borrowing money from friends.

When his young lover turned her back on him, Tan Hoan only found joy in the rare visits of his daughter to the nursing home. Tan Hoang admitted that at this point, he only wished to recover soon to be able to return to work, earn extra income, and take care of himself.

The once-famous star now lives on social assistance and the help of friends. The actor revealed that he receives a monthly living allowance at the hospital of 11,000 HKD (over 34 million VND).

He is burdened with a bank debt and is unable to repay it. The actor also had to sell his house in Hong Kong.
